Accessibility Checker for Docs & Slides — Help and support

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Accessibility Checker finds and fixes accessibility issues in Google Docs and Google Slides in one click, and exports a PDF that screen readers can read. Checking is free; Pro is €9 a month.

Questions or a problem? Write to [email protected] and we answer on weekdays. Tell us what the side panel says, and we can help faster. Please do not send the document itself unless we ask: we rarely need to see it to help you.

How do I check my document?

Install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Then open the document or presentation and click Extensions → Accessibility Checker for Google Docs™ & Slides™ → Check accessibility. The side panel shows a score from 0 to 100 and the three most important issues first, each with a button that fixes it or explains how.

Can I try it before I use it on my own files?

Yes. Open a new, empty document (docs.new) or presentation (slides.new), open the add-on and click Add sample content. It adds a short sample with ten typical mistakes, so you can check and fix them.

What does a one-click fix change?

Only what the issue is about: the heading level, the text colour, the list, the table header row and so on. Every fix is a normal edit in Google Docs or Slides, so you can undo it with Ctrl+Z or Version history.

How do I mark an image as decorative?

Click “It is decorative” on the issue. Screen readers and the accessible PDF then skip the image. Use it for dividers, background patterns and ornaments, not for images that carry information.

The AI suggestion for alt text is not quite right.

Edit the text in the box before you click Save alt text. Nothing is added to your document until you save it. A good alt text says what the image shows and why it is there, in one or two sentences.

A slide is “one picture”. What does that mean?

All text on the slide is part of an image, so screen readers get nothing. It often happens after Gemini “Beautify”. Click Recover the text to put the slide's text into the alt text and the speaker notes, or go back to the version before Beautify in File → Version history.

What is an accessible PDF?

A tagged PDF (PDF/UA) where headings, reading order, alt text, table headers, language and title are built in, so screen readers can use it. Google's own “Download as PDF” has no tags. Every PDF from the add-on is checked with the veraPDF validator, and the side panel tells you if it passed.

I paid for Pro, but the add-on still says Free.

Click “I have paid – refresh” in the side panel. Use the same Google account in Docs as the email you paid with. If it still says Free after a minute, write to us.

How does the organization licence work?

Everyone with an email address on your domain gets Pro. Your Google Workspace admin installs the add-on for all users, and you pay by invoice. Write to [email protected] with your organization, domain and number of users for a quote.
